Homeschooling notebooking ideas can be generated from things a child finds interesting about the subjects they are studying. A student could create a notebook on topics such as a historical figure, dinosaurs, a favorite author or geology. The possibilities are endless!
It is very easy to start notebooking. As a child is learning about a topic, collect clip art, photos, maps and any related information. Next, children add written information about the topic, such as quotes, poems, new words and their definitions. The end result is information children can use over and over again as their studies progress.
Science notebooks can cover many different subjects, depending upon the age of the child and what topics they want to cover. Topics could include bugs, rocks and minerals, plants and animals. Older children may want to use these notebooks for their research on physics, geology or astronomy.
Notebooking can be very useful in helping students remember important facts in a way that appeals to them. Notebooks can be about a specific historical figure, a moment in history or events that lead up to an important historical event, such as the Civil War.
A notebook can be used as a student's copybook, instead of investing in pre-made workbooks. These copybooks can be used to teach young children letter tracing and older children can use them to record favorite poems, passages in books or bible verses.
Bible notebooks can be created for use in the homeschool and carried to church as well to record information from a speaker or a bible study. These books could also be used to cover all of the books in the bible, starting with Genesis. The combination of writing about a subject, illustrating it and then discussing it with others will help to reinforce the information they've learned.
Notebooks are a great place to record information about books that have been read during the year. There could be separate notebooks for the different types of books read, such as fiction, non-fiction and biographies. Children can record their thoughts about each book, favorite characters and plots. These particular notebooks may prove useful later as children become older and begin doing research projects and creating bibliographies.
Children can express their creativity through the creation of art notebooks. Young children may create these to showcase everything from stamping projects to finger-painting. Older students may use these to record information about art forms they are learning about, such as origami, candle making and anime. They can also be used to record information about famous artists and schools of art.
For subjects that don't fit easily into any of the other categories, personal notebooks fit the bill. Perhaps a child is interested in becoming a vet, wants to learn more about karate or is participating in several 4-H projects. Personal notebooking can help them organize their thoughts and give them a permanent place to record important information that may be needed later.
