The West Metro Homeschool Co Op (or WMHC) is located in Maple Plain, Minneapolis. They hold informal weekly meetings in the Maple Plain Community Church. Their purpose is to provide support and spiritual encouragement for families that homeschool in the town and surrounding areas.
West Metro Homeschool Co Op Membership
Anyone who homeschools their children and is interested in a Christian-run support group may join the West Metro Homeschool Co Op. Members agree to the group's Mission Statement, Statement of Faith and Rules of Respect as well as pay a $10 membership fee and a $10-$15 church usage fee per semester.
Members of the group are required to volunteer their time in order to meet the goals of the Mission Statement. Volunteers will work to clean up after meetings and work as a monitor or teacher's assistant. It is important to note that this group is not a babysitting option; one parent from each family must be present during the group's meetings, with the exception of emergencies.
Meeting Agendas and Class Offerings
While children are attending classes, parents attend meetings and may also enroll in classes offered specifically for the adults. During each meeting, parents will vote on business issues, address concerns, plan future field trips and enjoy the camaraderie of fellow members.
The weekly meetings run from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Currently the West Metro Homeschool Co Op is serving 1st through 8th grade students. Parents may enroll their children in classes that are offered each semester by contracting with the teachers on staff. Members pay the teachers directly at the beginning of each semester. A $25 enrollment fee is required prior to the beginning of the semester and priority is given to returning students.
This homeschool group holds a fall Open House each August to showcase their offerings to prospective members. Learn more about them by attending the Open House or visit their website (West Metro Homeschool Co Op) to review what the group has to offer.
